Craig Alaska Fishing opportunities are endless. Craig is on the island of Prince of Whales in SE Alaska and is surrounded by water as all islands are. To the west is the Alaskan Inside passage, it is salt water but protected from the weather and ocean currents by this vast island. On the east side the Prince of Wales island is exposed to the Pacific ocean.

Craig Alaska is the biggest city on Prince of Whales island and has a population of just over 1200 people. To get to Craig most travellers come through Ketchikan Alaska. Ketchikan is only accessible by air or boat and is serviced by Alaskan airlines on a daily basis. From Ketchikan you can take a boat, Alaskan Ferry or a small community or float plane. Craig does have a small airport just outside of town.

The Prince of Wales Island is the 4th largest island in the united states. It is about 135 miles from North to South and 45 miles wide. The island is part of the Tongass National Forrest and most of the island is forested and considered a rain forrest. With all the rain there are numerous fresh water rivers where salmon and steelhead come up to spawn. Prince of Wales also has a number of freshwater lakes that hold some nice Rainbow trout.

The island is criss crossed with roads, some paved many not. Most of the rivers and lakes can be reached by these roads and they are all well within a short to moderate drive from Craig.

Craig also has both a commercial and sports fishing marina. Many fishing charters call Craig home as there is hotels and bnb’s are available for the tourists. Craig also has a number of lodges such as Silver Sea Adventures. These lodges typically have their own boats and captains and can accommodate 8=20+ fishermen at a time.

The waters surrounding the Island have a myriad of species of fish: salmon, halibut, bottom fish and ling cod just to name a few.

Craig has a number of fish processors where you can get your fish canned, smoked or prepared in other ways. If you have a few days in town they can typically have the fish ready to take back with you, if not they can ship it to your home for an extra fee.

Craig Alaska Fishing is some of best in the world and very affordable and accessible.
